A 15-year-old Cuban teenager has been sent to a detention center in Montevideo following a violent incident that shocked the border city of Rivera, Uruguay. The young offender is accused of injuring two brothers, both of similar age, with a knife. One of the victims remains hospitalized due to the severity of the injuries, according to the local media outlet, Debate Uruguay.

As confirmed by Telenoche, the altercation took place on July 22 in Rivera's Centro neighborhood. The victim arrived at the scene with several friends after a prior dispute involving a young woman believed to be the girlfriend of the attacker and a classmate of one of the injured brothers.

What started as a typical teenage quarrel quickly escalated into a violent knife attack. During the confrontation, the Cuban teen allegedly grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed one of the victims in the back, leaving part of the weapon embedded in his body.

The knife tip lodged in the victim's chest had to be surgically removed at the local hospital, where he remains under medical observation. His brother, also present at the scene, suffered cuts to his arms.

After gathering video footage and witness statements, Uruguayan prosecutors identified the assailant and issued an arrest warrant on July 23, which was executed the same day. The unnamed Cuban teenager appeared before the 3rd Turn Prosecutor's Office on July 25 and was subsequently brought before the Rivera Criminal Court.

The 1st Turn Judge formally charged him with attempted aggravated homicide and aggravated personal injuries due to the use of an appropriate weapon, as the primary perpetrator, reported Aplateia. As a precautionary measure, the court ordered his detention at the National Institute of Adolescent Social Inclusion (INISA) in the Uruguayan capital until a final first-instance ruling is made.
