Man Arrested in Miami-Dade for Killing Wife's Lover: Latest Details

Monday, July 28, 2025 by Henry Cruz

Omar René Águila, a 69-year-old man whose original nationality remains undisclosed, was recently detained for the murder of his wife's lover in Miami-Dade. This affair had reportedly been ongoing for five years, according to county authorities.

The tragic event unfolded on July 12 at the Northside Shopping Center, located at 7900 Northwest 27th Avenue. The victim was discovered inside a vehicle, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite a rushed transport to Jackson Memorial Hospital, he was pronounced dead, as confirmed by both NBC Miami and the Miami Herald.

As per the arrest report referenced by these outlets, the extramarital affair started in 2019. Águila, however, only learned of this romantic link between his wife and the victim in April of this year. Upon this revelation, Águila demanded that his wife end the affair.

Two days prior to the fatal incident, on July 10, the lover visited Águila's residence intending to speak with his wife, leading to an initial confrontation between the two men. This encounter did not escalate further at that time.

On the day of the murder, Águila was at the shopping center with his wife and son. Police reports indicate that the lover appeared again, ostensibly to deliver food to a friend working there, and attempted to speak with the woman once more. It was then that Águila’s son informed him of the lover's presence.

Riding a blue scooter, Águila approached the lover's car. A verbal altercation ensued, which quickly escalated when Águila drew a pistol from his waistband and shot his rival multiple times, resulting in his death. The entire incident was caught on a surveillance camera.

Initially, Águila was apprehended at the scene with a pistol in his possession, and officers found four bullet casings. However, he was released "pending further investigation" since his attorney claimed self-defense, alleging that Águila believed the victim was reaching for a weapon when he bent over. No weapon was found in the victim's vehicle.

New evidence, including the security footage and the absence of a weapon belonging to the victim, prompted authorities to issue a formal arrest warrant on July 25. In addition to facing a second-degree murder charge, Águila was accused of firearm possession by a convicted felon, a status that legally barred him from carrying weapons.

During a court appearance last Friday, bail was denied to the accused.
