A Cuban mother residing in the United States recently shared advice on TikTok for those planning to travel to Cuba with young children. Her recommendations came in response to a user's question: “How did you manage with water and food? I’m planning to travel with my baby too.”
"Your question might resonate with many people who aren't sure how to navigate a trip to Cuba. Based on my experience, I'd like to offer two tips that could be helpful, especially if you’ve been away from Cuba for over two years," explained TikTok user @dani_momemma in her video.
Her first suggestion is to bring all essential items for your baby and children, such as diapers and specific snacks. "If you prepare meals at home, you won't have any issues because you can find absolutely everything in Cuba with money—fruits, vegetables, meat, chicken, everything," she assured.
Water Safety: A Crucial Consideration
The second piece of advice she offered was about choosing the right water: “Buy imported water, avoid any water from Ciego Montero or made in Cuba due to the risk of it being repackaged.”
In June, after her visit to the island, the creator reflected on what it meant for her to return to her homeland: “I went back to Cuba, and my days were entirely different from my daily life in the United States... I returned to my land, to the noise that defines my country, to the heat, to the embrace that only those who have been away understand... Some people awaited me, others sadly were no longer there... The truth is, Cuba is no longer the same as it was when I left years ago, but none of this stopped me from enjoying my family and feeling at home again.”
Her latest video, featuring tips for traveling to the island, particularly for those who have been away for more than two years, has sparked numerous reactions. Many mothers expressed gratitude for the information: “Very good information, my friend, it's good to know,” one user commented, while another wrote, “That’s the question all mothers who plan to travel have. Thanks for the video.”
However, there were also critical opinions: “You don’t travel to dictatorships,” one commenter stated, while another added, “Don’t go, what you find on the island of terror is hunger, misery, and fear,” to which the creator replied, “No one asked for your advice, please and thank you.”
A few weeks ago, another Cuban mother who traveled to the island with her baby recounted that her child fell ill after consuming bottled water that turned out to be repackaged. She described having to visit several stores before finding safe water and advised, “Bring your water from here if you’re going to Cuba, especially for your baby.”
