On Friday, Cuban broadcaster Frank Abel declared his voluntary departure from the show Destino Tolk and announced his retirement from the media industry. This decision arises from a challenging personal phase involving health issues, an ongoing legal case in immigration court, and new developments in his personal life.
"Following everything that's happened, especially after my hospital stay, and considering how many media outlets try to twist the truth and undermine people, which I still can't comprehend, I've decided to take a break," stated the announcer.
He elaborated, "First, I'm very close to the court proceedings, I spoke to you and mentioned that my nerves aren't steady enough to record with the stress I'm under. Second, I'm receiving medical treatment. Third, while this is a job I am passionate about, I need some time with my family, who are my truest support (...) I need my family. I'm facing a tough court process, though thankfully there's no risk of deportation since I've been in this country for over three years without any other issues. I'm currently undergoing treatment, and I'm stepping away from the cameras temporarily," Frank Abel explained.
Abel stressed that Destino had not suggested his departure in any way. "To be more candid, I chose to step back from media for a while, and the team at Destino even supports my return whenever I wish. There's a possibility of me continuing to create content from afar," he asserted.
Among his reasons for taking a break from the spotlight, Frank Abel emphasized the importance of focusing on his family and entering a new personal chapter. "Moreover, I'm planning to marry someone who has become my life partner. This person doesn't live in Florida, and I plan to start a new life with them that I haven't had for a long time, which is my romantic life," he shared.
Abel reiterated his decision to withdraw from the artistic world and not move to any other platform. "I want to step back; it's my decision to take some time off. I want to escape the bad news spread by bad people, and flee from the falseness these individuals generate in the media. I need to rest; I've spent 25 years in radio and television," he stated.
The Dominican host of Destino Positivo emphasized that Frank Abel remains a part of the project and that the show's doors will stay open for him whenever he decides to return. On a personal note, he added that Frank Abel had earned his affection and respect as well as that of his family.
