Nebraska Offers More Value Than Miami for Cuban Migrant

Thursday, July 24, 2025 by Ava Castillo

A Cuban woman residing in Nebraska has stepped forward to address criticism she received after sharing a negative experience during her visit to Miami. She defended her life in the Midwest, highlighting the advantages of living away from the hustle and heat of South Florida. "Let me stand up for my area, which you say is cold, but let me tell you, here in Nebraska I have things people in Miami don't," she stated in a TikTok video. Identified on the platform as @yai_lent, she contrasted her current lifestyle with what she left behind in Miami.

She explained that she pays $1,200 a month for an apartment with three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a living room, dining area, kitchen, and a garden—something nearly unthinkable in the Sunshine City. "Try finding someone in Miami who pays $1,200 for all that," she added.

The Cuban woman also discussed salary differences, noting that while the jobs can be tough, she earns $23 an hour and her husband more than $25 in Nebraska. Beyond the economic factors, she emphasized the more humane and respectful interactions she's experienced in Nebraska. "Here you go to any store and in all the years I've lived here, I've never been treated poorly like I was in Miami stores," she assured. "You don't even see that at the Cuban restaurant here."

Regarding that restaurant, she mentioned that upon entering, "the staff greet you warmly, ask how they can help, offer a tour of the store if needed, and if you dine in, they provide excellent service."

Her response followed criticism from a previous video where she recounted a bad experience in a Miami store, where she claimed to have been mistreated by the staff. "In Miami, people live more by flaunting than by what they truly have in their pockets," she concluded.
