Prominent Cuban actor Luis Alberto García voiced his frustration on Saturday after being denied service at a Havana gas station, despite having received confirmation through the state-run app El Ticket to purchase fuel. García took to social media to describe his disciplined trip to the gas station located at 112 and 5th Avenue in the Playa municipality, following two text messages indicating he was eligible to receive 40 liters of regular gasoline.
“I endured the line under the scorching sun for over an hour and a half... Sweating profusely. Engaging in banter with others equally displeased about 'the system,' the country and its overseers, the virtual food, the audiovisual and journalistic happiness, the chaos, the disaster, the garbage stench, the beggar masquerades, the resignations disguised for one and not their followers, the constitution twisted at will, and the complicit leaders and deputies," García commented.
Unexpected Denial at the Gas Pump
However, after waiting in line, he was met with refusal from the station staff. "Artist... I'm sorry, but we can't provide you with fuel, comrade," he was told at the sales point, where he presented all necessary documents: his ID, QR code, app messages, and vehicle registration.
The reason for the denial, as explained to him, was a change in the registration requirements on El Ticket. What was previously validated with the vehicle's license plate now needed to match the circulation license number. "Orders from above," an employee remarked.
A Systematic Frustration
“So, I have to leave without refueling and wait another two weeks?” the actor asked. The response was a firm yes, which sparked his indignation. “Not one more comrade!” García retorted. “I felt so dignified, so respected, and so loved in this country I adore!”
Known for his critical stance, García did not hold back on using irony to highlight the mistreatment faced by ordinary citizens, who endure endless queues under the sun while those in power enjoy privileges, avoid lines, or refuel at exclusive, hidden stations. “Love you, chubby comrades. Stay away from me. From us,” he concluded, visibly upset.
His grievances have sparked a wave of reactions on social media, where many users identified with his frustration over the persistent hurdles in accessing basic resources, such as fuel, in Havana and across the nation.
