Sandro Castro, the influencer grandson of the late dictator, has once again brought out his vampire persona, this time to demand not to be silenced. In a fresh Instagram reel, the "Vampirach" is depicted tied to a pyre while someone pours a liquid over him: "Stupid, useless, you're pouring detergent on me, I've already showered and brushed," he says to one of the followers who regularly appear in his videos.
"Know that if you burn me, the Cristach, green tea, and apple juice will be gone forever, because I take the formula with me," he quips with his questionable sense of humor as a torch is brought closer to him. Finally, the Vampirach demands his freedom: "Release me, for I am your god," he declares, while the chorus echoes, "Release the devil."
Last Thursday, coinciding with the fourth anniversary of the July 11 social uprising in Cuba, Fidel Castro's rebellious grandson was seen strolling through the streets of Havana like a tourist. He sported a Real Madrid t-shirt, his signature dark glasses, and recorded his surroundings with his cell phone as if everything around him were exotic content. He wandered through streets among Cubans engaged in their daily struggle for basic necessities.
While some see him as the heir to a class detached from the country's reality, someone who can act and speak without repercussions, others view him as the voice of the twilight phase of Castroism, even urging him to run for President of Cuba. His controversial persona, far from the discretion with which the ruling class enjoys its privileges, begins to trouble the officialdom.
Recently, official ideologist Ernesto Limia labeled him an "idiot" and accused him of dishonoring his grandfather's memory in a text shared by spy Gerardo Hernández. "Sandro has no affection for his grandfather, nor does he respect his memory. Posing with the American flag behind him is the greatest evidence, and all these reactions inflate his ego. Our enemies know this and thus encourage his foolishness," Limia harshly noted.
