Friends, activists, and colleagues have raised alarms over the disappearance of Yasiel Adrián Quiñones Alfonso, a 30-year-old veterinarian, missing since July 12. Social media reports indicate that he was last seen in Bejucal, Mayabeque province, and there is growing concern for his safety.

Quiñones, who resided in Centro Habana, was employed at the Vetpro Veterinary Clinic and served the Carlos III area as well. According to those close to him, he was experiencing a fragile emotional state. He had left behind farewell notes and handed over his mobile phone to avoid being tracked.

"He's in a severe depressive condition," activist Lara Crofs warned on Facebook, noting his last sighting near the Carlos III clinic. She added, "He gave his phone to his sister to remain untraceable."

The animal protection group BAC-Habana stated, "The situation is dire. He is in a critical depressive state, and his whereabouts are unknown." They urged the public to assist, emphasizing, "He has saved countless animal lives and now needs us to save his own."

Escalating Concerns Over Recent Disappearances

Luciano Sariol Rodríguez, identifying Quiñones as a member of the Corazones Unidos Lodge, mentioned that he vanished following a nervous breakdown. Social media users have shared photos and urged the dissemination of information, providing various contact numbers for any leads.

Quiñones' case adds to a troubling pattern of recent disappearances in Cuba, where social media and independent media have played crucial roles in the absence of visible official responses.

Among the recent cases is Yusmar Duanis Vega, a 29-year-old from Santiago de Cuba, missing since July 3. According to Yordy Battle, Duanis last contacted his mother from Marianao, Havana. His phone has since been off, and he remains unlocated.

The case of Doraiky Águila Vázquez, missing since March, remains unresolved. Her mother, Maura Vázquez, has repeatedly pleaded for help, writing in a recent post, "I implore God and the entire country on my knees." She insists her daughter urgently needs medical attention and has publicly criticized the authorities' inaction.

Tragically, the body of Yasiel Amador López, a young man from Guanajay with schizophrenia, was discovered lifeless weeks after his disappearance. Despite social media pleas and shared contact information, his sister reported that no assistance was provided. "He asked for help in several places, and nobody called. The police offered no help," she stated.

These incidents have heightened public concern over the absence of effective search protocols in Cuba, where often close circles are left to undertake the burden of locating missing individuals, amidst growing feelings of insecurity and distress.
