A 30-year-old woman from South Florida has been taken into custody after allegedly shooting her husband in the buttocks following an argument sparked by infidelity. The incident unfolded on Thursday afternoon at the couple's home located in the 17300 block of Southwest 46th Street, near the intersection with Southwest 172 Avenue in Miramar, Broward County.
City police received a report of gunfire at 5:11 pm and arrived at the scene shortly before 5:15 pm. According to an arrest report obtained by Local 10, the confrontation between Chanicia Tijuana Hernández and her husband escalated into violence due to the affair.
Hernández recounted to investigators that her husband had choked her in the bathroom while demanding to know the whereabouts of her weapon. After he released her and headed to the bedroom closet, Hernández seized the opportunity to flee. However, she later returned, retrieved a gun from her purse—which was inside the closet—and exited the house.
Authorities report that as the husband attempted to leave the residence, Hernández shouted, "Are you going to put your hands on me?" to which he retorted, "Yes, b...". It was then that Hernández shot him, inflicting a gunshot wound to his buttock.
The police emphasized that the man had already left the house and posed no immediate threat when he was shot. "Because the victim had left the residence and no longer posed a threat to (Hernández) when she shot him, she was subsequently taken into custody," stated the report.
The shooting was not classified as an act of self-defense by the authorities. The legal basis for an additional charge of criminal attempt to solicit a first-degree felony remains unclear. Local 10 News is in contact with the Miramar Police Department to gather more information regarding this specific charge.
Hernández was arrested the same day of the incident and appeared before a judge on Saturday, who denied her bond. According to Telemundo 51, she remains detained at the main jail in Broward County.
