Gervonta 'Tank' Davis, the WBA lightweight champion, was apprehended on Friday in Miami over an alleged domestic violence incident that took place in Doral on June 15, Father's Day. The charge, classified as a misdemeanor for domestic assault, stems from an event where Davis reportedly went to his ex-girlfriend’s home to pick up his children and allegedly assaulted her by hitting her on the back of the neck and slapping her, as reported by ESPN Deportes.

The alleged assaults were captured on video. The ex-mother-in-law of Davis claimed her daughter was "visibly upset and crying," according to police reports. Davis was arrested by Miami Beach police and handed over to Doral authorities. Upon arrival at the station, he refused to sign a warning and was subsequently taken to Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.

However, Davis was released on a $10,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on July 29. This incident marks the third time Davis has faced arrest for domestic violence-related charges, following previous arrests in February 2020 and December 2022. His professional boxing record remains impressive with 30 wins, 1 draw, and 28 knockouts, yet his legal troubles continue to shadow his career.

In addition to this latest arrest, Davis, age 30, has a history of legal issues, including a conviction for a hit-and-run in Baltimore in 2020, for which he served house arrest. Earlier domestic violence charges against him were eventually dropped. This recent detainment comes shortly after his controversial March fight against Lamont Roach Jr., which ended in a disputed draw, raising questions about his performance in the ring.

This incident poses a significant threat to Davis's career, potentially derailing his professional trajectory and complicating future matches as he remains under judicial scrutiny.
