Is Cuban Reggaeton Artist Chocolate in Alligator Alcatraz?

No, Chocolate MC has not been relocated to the controversial migrant detention center in Florida known as Alligator Alcatraz. Univision journalist Javier Díaz has clarified this following rumors that suggested the controversial reggaeton artist was held at the facility, which opened last week.

"The news is false and circulating on social media, but it is not true. Currently, the musician remains detained in Miami-Dade's jail and has not been moved to Alligator Alcatraz," Díaz explained on his social media accounts. However, he didn't rule out the possibility of a future transfer. "It could happen, but for now, it hasn't. So don't be misled by unofficial pages," the journalist concluded.

Indeed, Chocolate's police records indicate that he is still detained at Metro West Detention Center (MWDC). This facility is the largest detention center in the Miami-Dade County corrections system, capable of housing up to 3,098 male inmates under maximum, medium, and minimum custody levels.

One Month Behind Bars

Chocolate has been imprisoned for over a month. The reggaeton artist was arrested on June 2 after allegedly kidnapping and threatening a fan with a firearm, holding the individual captive for several hours. On June 5, Chocolate appeared before Judge Mindy S. Glazer in Miami, where it was decided that he would be denied bail due to violations of prior release conditions.

During the hearing, Yosvanis Sierra Hernández—Chocolate's real name—denied being "crazy" and claimed he feels "safer in jail." He further alleged, "Someone on the street is paying to have me killed like they did with El Taiger." Chocolate insisted he did not want a lawyer, stating, "Even my lawyer is borrowed. They're trying to sell me as if I'm crazy." He faces charges for kidnapping and armed robbery, despite the gun used in the incident being a fake.

This case adds to a legal history that includes accusations of domestic violence, drug possession, and alleged conspiracy to murder the purported killer of El Taiger. It marks Chocolate's fifth court case in Florida and his ninth arrest in eight years.

The Dreaded Alligator Alcatraz

While Chocolate hasn't been transferred to Alligator Alcatraz yet, reggaeton artist Leamsy Izquierdo, known as La Figura, is currently there. Izquierdo has spoken out about the inhumane conditions at the Florida immigration detention center. He was placed in the facility after being arrested on criminal charges and subsequently held by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
