A Cuban resident of Miami has been taken into custody on charges of sexually abusing a nine-year-old boy, a situation he reportedly defended by claiming "it's something men do" when confronted by the boy's mother. The Miami Police apprehended Reinaldo Reyes Llanes, a 67-year-old Cuban national, last Saturday in the Allapatah neighborhood. He faces allegations of lewd and lascivious conduct with a child under 12, according to Local 10 News.

The arrest report details that the child's mother brought him to a social gathering hosted by her employer at an apartment located at 3701 NW 22nd Ave. Reyes, who lives nearby, was also in attendance. As the event wound down and guests began to leave, Reyes suggested the woman and her son stay overnight in his apartment, offering them his bed.

The mother told authorities that while the boy lay on the bed, Reyes "entered the bedroom, slapped him on the buttocks over his clothing, and then touched his front genital area over his clothes." The child reportedly turned to his mother and looked at her. When she questioned Reyes about his inappropriate actions, he allegedly laughed it off, saying, "I'm Cuban. That's a man thing."

During police questioning, Reyes denied any wrongdoing. As of Monday, he remained in custody at Miami's Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center without bail.

Under Florida law, lewd or lascivious conduct involving a child under 12 by an adult over 18 is classified as a second-degree felony. This offense can result in up to 15 years in prison, 15 years of probation for sexual offenders, and a fine of up to $10,000.
