Cuban reggaeton artist Yomil recently boasted about his personal achievements, revealing that he has gone from sleeping in a makeshift shelter to owning five houses in Havana. This revelation did not go unnoticed, sparking a wave of reactions ranging from applause to harsh criticism.
In a video shared on his social media platforms, the musician expressed gratitude for overcoming many challenges to reach his current status. However, his remarks quickly stirred astonishment and controversy, particularly due to the apparent contradiction with Cuban laws regarding property ownership.
One commenter did not shy away from addressing the issue: “Brother, with all due respect, how do you manage to own so many houses when the law in Cuba only permits one per person? Are you above the law?” This sparked a heated debate in the comment section. While some staunchly defended Yomil, others were quick to criticize. Comments supporting Yomil included: “If a Cuban hater doesn’t jump in, the post isn’t worth it: Why do you care? You can’t stand seeing someone else succeed”; “There are a million people in Cuba with more than one, even seven. You must not get out much. What’s family for?”
Yomil addressed the controversy with his usual calm demeanor, stating, “Thanks to God, I have true family and friends.” This suggests that not all the properties are in his name, which might explain how he has acquired multiple homes without violating Cuban laws.
The controversy continues to escalate, with some followers even accusing him of having ties with the Cuban government, labeling him a “chivato” (informant). Conversely, others view him as a symbol of perseverance and success.
