Heartfelt Farewell for Victims of Ciego de Ávila Tragedy

In the small community of Vicente, located just eight kilometers from the city of Ciego de Ávila, residents gathered on Monday to bid a sorrowful farewell to the four victims of a devastating accident that took place on Sunday in the Majagua municipality.

"Such humble, simple people, sharing what little they have, now saying goodbye to two boys, a girl, and a young man amidst an indescribable grief," wrote Guillermo Rodríguez Sánchez on social media as he shared images from the funeral for three of the victims.

He continued, "Maikol Dayán, aged 13, was laid to rest early, followed by the somber procession for Dairon, 16, Lian, 14, and Yordanis, 23. Mothers, fathers, grandparents, neighborhood friends, and neighbors gathered to offer their last respects."

Meanwhile, reports emerged that eight individuals remain hospitalized, with four in critical condition, two in serious condition, and two under observation. This information was shared by Dr. Julio Díaz Agramonte, a Neurosurgery Specialist and Director of the Roberto Rodríguez Hospital in Morón.

Young Lives Lost in the Tragic Event

The victims identified were Maikol Dayan Torres González, 13; Daniel Sarmiento Domínguez, 16; Lian Poso Duane, 14; and Yordanis Fernández Garrido, 23, who succumbed to his injuries at the Morón hospital. Tragically, three of the deceased were minors.

The accident occurred near Río Grande in the Majagua area, under circumstances that remain unclear. According to reports, 33 individuals received emergency care at Dr. Antonio Luaces Iraola Provincial General Teaching Hospital, including seven children.

Nine patients, suffering from cranial and thoracic injuries—three of whom were children—were transferred to Roberto Rodríguez Fernández Provincial General Teaching Hospital in Morón. The incident took place on the morning of July 6, when a state-owned vehicle from the Hydraulic Resources Company, with the license plate B-236623, overturned on the Río Grande stretch between Marroquín and Majagua.

The vehicle was transporting several people when it lost control, leading to the tragic event.
