Authorities have apprehended five individuals linked to a violent robbery targeting a jeweler in Cárdenas, Matanzas. The jeweler was assaulted in his own residence, where the culprits made off with 500 grams of gold and 10,000 pesos, as reported by sources associated with the Ministry of the Interior.

The Facebook page "Con Todos La Victoria" revealed that a few days ago, two assailants broke into the jeweler's home, rendering him unconscious before stealing a backpack containing the gold, cash, and personal documents. Following the investigation, these suspects were captured in the province of Cienfuegos.

The police also detained the driver who facilitated their escape and was tasked with selling the stolen gold. Additionally, a jeweler who purchased the gold and a woman who surveilled the victim's movements were arrested. Although the post did not disclose the identities of the main perpetrators and their accomplices, it emphasized that all five individuals will face legal consequences for their actions. The recovered items are to be returned gradually to their rightful owner, according to the source.

This incident highlights the escalating insecurity in Cuba, exacerbated by rising crime and violence amid a severe economic and social crisis. Just recently, in the city of Santa Clara, another violent robbery raised alarms: two men, under the direction of a third party, used a firearm to rob a home, inflicting serious injuries on one resident.

Such incidents underscore the audacity, brutality, and disregard for human life demonstrated by criminals, who resort to extreme physical violence to achieve their goals without hesitation. In a separate case, Geosvany Fidel Rivalta, a tourism vehicle driver, was found dead after disappearing on June 19 during a trip from Ranchuelo, Villa Clara, to Matanzas. He was murdered for his vehicle.

Earlier in June, Agustín Pellicer Charón, a 70-year-old farmer, was tortured and killed at his home in the rural area of Quintoque, located at kilometer 36 on the highway between Songo-La Maya, Santiago de Cuba, and Guantánamo. The attackers exploited the fact that he lived alone to rob approximately 15 head of cattle.
