In Ciego de Ávila, authorities confirmed on Sunday that a devastating accident in the morning claimed the lives of three teenagers and left at least 33 others injured. The tragic event occurred at a location known as Río Grande, situated between Marroquín and Majagua.

The official newspaper, Invasor, reported that the deceased were Maikol Dayán Torres González, aged 13, Dairon Sarmientos Domínguez, 16, and Lian Pazo Duanes, 14. These three teens were traveling in a government-owned vehicle from the Hydraulic Resources Company, registered as B-236623, which overturned while transporting multiple passengers through the rural areas of Majagua.

According to the same report, 33 individuals suffered injuries. Among them, 25 are currently receiving medical care at the Antonio Luaces Iraola Provincial Hospital in the main city, while 8 others, in critical condition with severe cranial or thoracic trauma, were transferred to the Roberto Rodríguez Hospital in Morón.

Previously, journalist Odania García posted on Facebook identifying two of the victims with the same details: Maikol Dayán de la Torre González, 12, the son of the vehicle's driver, and Dairon Sarmiento, 16. However, the third name she mentioned, Dianet Pozo Duanis, 14, does not match the official list that includes Lian Pazo Duanes, as reported by the state-run paper.

Prior to these confirmations, Dayami Hidalgo had shared on Facebook that the accident took place “on the road to Río Grande in the Majagua municipality” and that medical assistance was provided to the victims at the Doña Emilia Polyclinic.

The community's response to this heartbreaking incident was swift, with residents of Ciego de Ávila coming together to donate blood for those affected by the accident.

Traffic accidents in Cuba have been on the rise recently. Just this past Saturday evening, another serious incident on the Vía Blanca in Havana resulted in multiple injuries. Cuban authorities updated the public concerning a catastrophic crash at the Varadero toll station, where a severe collision led to a car catching fire, claiming two lives.

This incident occurred around 5:40 p.m. when a private vehicle traveling from Varadero towards Boca de Camarioca lost control and violently struck a masonry wall near the toll booth. Witnesses stated the car was speeding before it crashed into the toll structure. The impact was so intense that the vehicle was lifted into the air, split upon landing, and one half ignited, causing an explosion visible from various points in the area.

Following the crash, Rubén Lantigua, 33, and Amanda Naranjo, 30, were identified as the victims in the Varadero toll accident.
