Health authorities have reported that three children from the municipality of Vertientes in Camagüey province were urgently admitted to the Provincial Pediatric Hospital this past Saturday after consuming gummies laced with marijuana. Official sources disclosed that the children were rushed to the hospital after ingesting Kush Queen brand candies, which contain cannabinoid components. "Fortunately, the children are now stable and out of danger, thanks to prompt medical intervention," noted Brayan Morales Martínez on his social media profile.

According to the information provided, the parents were unaware of the actual contents of the product when distributing it, despite the packaging clearly displaying a marijuana leaf in its design along with an English warning stating: "Adult product." Kush Queen gummies contain psychoactive substances that children can easily mistake for regular candy.

Community Concerns Over Child Safety

This incident has sparked significant concern within the community, prompting an urgent call for parents, caregivers, and family members to diligently inspect products they give or receive for minors. "Not everything that appears to be a simple candy is innocent," warned José Luis Tan Estrada while making the announcement.

The Nature of Kush Queen Gummies

Kush Queen gummies are edible cannabis products developed and marketed primarily in the United States. This brand has carved out a niche in the legal cannabis market by focusing on wellness, health, and relaxation, employing formulations that blend various cannabinoids and terpenes to specifically alleviate stress, anxiety, or pain.

Depending on the product line, Kush Queen gummies may contain THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), the primary psychoactive compound in cannabis responsible for euphoric effects and sensory alterations. They might also include CBD (cannabidiol), which is non-psychoactive and used therapeutically to reduce anxiety, insomnia, inflammation, and pain.

Psychoactive Components and Legal Concerns

Other ingredients can include Delta-8-THC, a cannabinoid with milder psychoactive effects than the traditional THC (Delta-9). It is legal in certain states where Delta-9 is not.

These products are not intended for children and can pose a significant health risk if accidentally ingested. Due to their appearance (resembling common candies), the gummies can easily be mistaken for harmless treats. In minors, consuming cannabinoids can lead to dizziness, extreme drowsiness, or loss of consciousness; severe anxiety or panic attacks; nausea, vomiting, and cardiovascular issues; and in severe cases, poisoning requiring hospitalization.

Understanding the Risks of Cannabis Edibles for Children

What are the potential health risks for children who consume marijuana gummies?

Children can experience dizziness, extreme drowsiness, loss of consciousness, severe anxiety, panic attacks, nausea, vomiting, and cardiovascular issues. In severe cases, it could lead to poisoning that requires hospitalization.
