A 41-year-old Cuban resident of Doral was taken into custody on Saturday and is facing several charges for two violent attacks in Miami-Dade County this week. The first was a vicious sexual assault in broad daylight on Thursday, July 3, in West Miami, followed by a physical assault on a hotel employee in Doral the next day.
Violent Assault in West Miami-Dade
According to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office (MDSO), the suspect, identified as Daysnel Hernández, attacked a 28-year-old woman as she exited her vehicle in a parking lot outside a shopping center in West Miami-Dade. The incident happened around 10:30 am near 777 NW 72nd Avenue in an unincorporated area of the county.
The arrest report, accessed by Diario de las Américas, details that Hernández struck the woman on the back of the head with a large rock, covered her mouth, held a screwdriver to her neck, and dragged her to a secluded area. There, the victim was repeatedly punched as she tried to fight back. The assailant then raped her while still wielding the screwdriver.
The woman was forced to perform sexual acts, including vaginal and oral penetration. Hernández ejaculated in her mouth before fleeing the scene on foot. During the attack, she pleaded for her life, fearing she would be killed.
As a result of the assault, the young woman sustained numerous lacerations, abrasions, and bruising over her body. MDSO officers launched an immediate investigation following her report.
Arrest and Confession of the Suspect
Shortly after the attack, Hernández was apprehended by Doral police in connection with a separate incident. Once in custody and after being read his Miranda rights, he confessed to "raping" the woman and confirmed the details she provided, as per official documents.
Hernández was subsequently transferred without incident to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center (TGK), where he remains detained as bail is being determined. He faces charges of kidnapping during aggravated assault with a weapon, sexual battery with a deadly weapon causing injury, and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Second Incident in Doral
The second incident linked to Hernández took place on Friday, July 4. The Doral Police disclosed that the suspect allegedly "physically assaulted" a hotel employee at the Doral Inn & Suites, located at 1212 NW 82nd Avenue. The exact circumstances remain under investigation, as details are still emerging.
Local 10 reports that, in addition to the sexual assault charges, court records show Hernández also faces charges of robbery with assault or battery and attempted second-degree murder related to the Doral incident. Both the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office and Doral Police Department are actively investigating the two cases.
