Cuban authorities have provided an update on the devastating traffic accident that took place Saturday afternoon at the Varadero Toll Booth, where a fatal collision led to a car fire. The incident occurred around 5:40 p.m. when a private vehicle traveling from Varadero to Boca de Camarioca lost control and violently crashed into the masonry divider near the toll booth.

Witnesses reported that the car was speeding when it hit the toll booth's barrier. The impact was so severe that the vehicle was lifted into the air, split in two upon landing, and one half ignited, causing an explosion visible from multiple vantage points in the area. Both occupants of the car died at the scene, as confirmed by Ángel Raúl Reyes Fernández, the toll station director.

Fortunately, no other drivers or toll workers were harmed, though they were understandably shaken. Sandra Loureiro, director of the National Road Center, clarified that the burning part of the car rolled towards the toll booth area. The fire partially affected the infrastructure, but no severe damage to the booths was reported. However, one column will require technical assessment.

Firefighters and the Ministry of the Interior (MININT) teams responded to extinguish the blaze, secure the location, and begin cleanup efforts. Arentur forces were deployed to clear debris and remove the wreckage. Traffic was temporarily halted, and a detour was set up to allow vehicles to pass while rescue and cleaning operations were underway.

Transport Minister Eduardo Rodríguez Dávila stated he has been in constant contact with local authorities and extended his condolences to the victims' families and friends. The exact causes of the accident remain under investigation. In the meantime, traffic control continues in the affected area, and further details are expected shortly.

This tragic accident at the Varadero Toll Booth, a major tourist route in the region, has left the community in shock and underscored the need to enhance road safety measures in high-traffic areas.
