Young Man in Havana Arrested After Viral Motorcycle Stunt Video

Friday, July 4, 2025 by Alex Smith

A Cuban youth was recently arrested in Havana after a video of him performing dangerous stunts on a motorcycle went viral on social media. The young man lacked both a license and registration, and his vehicle had been altered for these risky maneuvers.

The incident took place on Boyeros Avenue, where the motorcyclist was filmed lifting the front wheel of his bike while speeding. The footage was shared by the page Héroes de Azul en Cuba, which reported that the young man did not have the required documents and his motorcycle was modified for performing such stunts.

"A video goes viral: a motorcyclist defies gravity and the laws of physics on Boyeros Avenue. Movie-worthy stunts, front wheel high at full speed. He seemed like an action hero, a daredevil... until reality, relentless, intervened—or as they say online: 'Karma,'" the page wrote in its post, detailing that the National Revolutionary Police and the Traffic Directorate intervened and detained the rider.

According to the same post, the imposed sanction included the detention and warning of the young man, who was accused of driving without a license, riding without registration, altering the vehicle to perform dangerous stunts, and violating traffic laws. Additionally, he was barred from riding the motorcycle until his legal situation was resolved, and he was instructed to remove the modification that enabled the stunts, restoring the bike to "its safe factory parameters."

The case was highlighted as a cautionary tale. "That 'epic' video omitted the immense risks: for the rider, pedestrians, and other vehicles. It’s not heroism; it’s reckless behavior with potentially tragic outcomes," stated the Héroes de Azul publication, which also urged young people not to seek fame at the cost of their lives or others', and advised spectators not to glorify such conduct.

The official media outlet Cubadebate also covered the incident, describing it as a case where "going viral becomes a public risk." In their article published on July 3, they echoed the details shared by Héroes de Azul and added that such interventions aim to "set a precedent regarding the consequences of violating the law."

This incident occurs against a backdrop of a troubling increase in motorcycle-related accidents. Recently, at least three motorcyclists have died in accidents in Havana and Cárdenas. In one instance, a young man died after colliding with a bus in the Diez de Octubre municipality; in another, a motorcyclist crashed into a horse-drawn carriage. Family and friends paid tribute to the deceased young man in Havana with a motorcycle caravan and a ceremony at the accident site.

According to official data, from January to April this year, 2,377 traffic accidents have been recorded in the country, with 91% attributed to human error, according to the PNR Traffic Directorate.

The detention of the young man for his motorcycle stunts has become a stark example of the risks associated with seeking social media fame and the legal ramifications of violating traffic regulations.
