Friday, July 4, 2025 by Grace Ramos

In a deeply moving ceremony, family, friends, and acquaintances bid farewell to Aslam Vázquez, affectionately known as Asly, on Wednesday. The young motorcyclist tragically lost his life in a traffic accident in the Diez de Octubre district of Havana. The love for Asly and the grief over his untimely passing brought together dozens of people, including his parents Ricardo and Yusnely, his wife Adriana Ávila, other family members, motorcycle enthusiasts, and neighbors, at the intersection of Espadero Street and Acosta Avenue. This was the very spot where, on Sunday morning, the accident occurred, claiming his life at just 28 years old.

At this corner, a memorial plaque was erected and a photo of Asly was displayed, with attendees laying flowers and lighting candles in his honor. To commemorate his memory, a procession of motorcyclists departed from Ciudad Deportiva and arrived at the site, revving their engines as a gesture of respect and admiration.

The sorrow and posthumous tributes to the young rider have also spread across social media. His wife posted a heart-wrenching message on Facebook, expressing the love they shared: "Life is so unfair!!! You dimmed my light, took a piece of me that I will never get back. You were always my angel, and now that you're not by my side, I pray to God for the strength to learn to live without you because I will never forget you. You broke me and took my life with you, YOU ARE THE MOST BEAUTIFUL ANGEL in heaven, and I only hope that wherever you are, you shine as brightly as you did in life."

She also recalled her husband's passion for motorcycling: "You left being happy, doing what you loved, leaving marks on the streets wherever you passed. Fly high, my champion, and wherever you are, embrace my heart that will always be yours." The couple had married just a few weeks ago.

Excelencias del Motor magazine's Facebook page also paid tribute to Asly, acknowledging him as a member of the Biker family. The post remembered him as "a fan of sports bikes," owner of a 2016 Honda Fireblade, and an official member of Team 299, "a champion in high-displacement races, where he earned mentions and awards, notably the runner-up prize in the 600 CC category on a Yamaha R6."

"Asley didn't leave us; he simply finished his route, crossed the finish line sooner than expected. So every time a bike roars, many will say, there goes Asley, paving the way to victory," the text emphasized.

Friends, colleagues, and others shared videos of the farewell ceremony, accompanied by heartfelt words. Sunday morning plunged a Cuban family into mourning after the loss of one of their sons. Asly died after colliding with a bus while riding his motorcycle in the La Víbora neighborhood. His wife, who was riding with him, sustained injuries requiring hospitalization but survived.

As of now, the causes of this tragic accident remain unknown.
