Cuban TikToker's Birthday Trip to Cuba Didn't Go as Planned: "I Tried to Make the Best of It"

Thursday, July 3, 2025 by Claire Jimenez

Jocelyn Carabeo, a Cuban influencer known on TikTok as @iam_jocyy with over 1.5 million followers, recently embarked on a journey to Cuba to celebrate her 20th birthday. Surrounded by family, pink decorations, and of course, birthday cakes, she aimed to mark the special occasion on the island where she was born. Although she currently resides in the United States, she traveled back to spend this meaningful day with her mother. However, the celebration didn't unfold exactly as she had envisioned.

In a video shared on her TikTok, Jocelyn highlighted the party's setup and recounted the day's events: "Everything started off pretty well," she explained, until a mishap occurred with one of the cakes—the one she liked the most—which ended up falling. "I'm used to things not going as planned, so I just decided to laugh it off and make the best of the situation," she stated, maintaining her characteristic blend of honesty and humor.

Fortunately, not all was lost. There were two cakes, and the second one remained intact. This allowed for the traditional birthday song to be sung, albeit a bit later than expected. "It was around 8 PM when we finally managed to organize the singing," Jocelyn admitted. Despite the setbacks, she expressed gratitude for being in Cuba and sharing the moment with her loved ones: "I enjoyed it and had a birthday like never before in my life."

The comments on her post were filled with appreciation for her humility and down-to-earth style: "I love that you don't go overboard with birthdays," "What a beautiful way to reconnect with your roots," and "Everything looked beautiful, Jocy," were among the most frequent reactions.

Despite the challenges and mixed opinions, Jocelyn concluded her birthday celebration with a smile. Neither the fallen cake nor the delay with the snacks could overshadow the most important aspect: celebrating her 20th year surrounded by love and at home.
