Tuesday, July 1, 2025 by Samantha Mendoza

Cuban actor Alejandro Cuervo made his way back to Havana this Tuesday following a controversial trip to the United States that sparked a whirlwind of reactions, particularly among the Cuban exile community in Miami. Upon arriving at José Martí International Airport, the actor expressed to La Familia Cubana that he felt “right at home.” Cuervo, who faced significant backlash in recent weeks for his journey to the U.S. and comments made while in Miami, chose to maintain a calm and positive demeanor during his initial remarks after returning.

When asked how the trip went, he replied with a smile, “Very well, spectacular, like a movie.” As for whether he plans to visit the United States again soon, he left it open-ended: “Only God knows.”

During his time in the U.S., Cuervo made statements that caught attention. In an interview with journalist Javier Díaz, he defended his visit to Miami, asserting that in Cuba, no one dictates what he should say. However, he felt that in Miami, he was met with preconceived notions.

Cuervo mentioned in that interview that he had no intention of staying in the United States, a sentiment confirmed by his return to the island. On the show “Destino Tolk,” he also discussed his business ventures in Cuba, emphasizing that he has no connections to the island's government, a frequent accusation against him, insisting that his success is due to his own hard work and dedication. He received another wave of criticism from the Cuban community after stating that in Cuba, “you can indeed make progress.”

Despite the criticism, Cuervo shared various experiences from his time in Miami and later in New York through Instagram, including enjoying a musical on Broadway.
