Cuban reggaeton artist El Uniko has once again voiced his discontent with Alexander Delgado from Gente de Zona, accusing him of attempting to co-opt the reparto genre, one of the most popular urban music styles among Cuban youth.
In a video shared on his social media platforms, El Uniko openly criticized Delgado's recent involvement in the genre, following collaborations with artists like Chocolate MC in his latest musical projects.
"You're not a big deal within the movement because you don't deserve to be. We don't have a personal issue, except for El Monarca, who took it personally and blocked me. But that's the truth," El Uniko expressed, visibly irritated.
Reparto's Roots and Recognition
According to the urban artist, during the years when the reparto genre was not financially lucrative, figures like Alexander Delgado showed little interest in supporting it. "All the time we were making this music, when it didn't make any money, and they were already earning, we sought support from him, and they never wanted to back us," he remarked.
He further added, "And now you want to come at the last minute when we are the leading movement and claim to the world that you're part of it? No, you're not part of it," he concluded.
Ongoing Tensions in Cuban Music
Conflict between reparto artists and established acts like Gente de Zona is not a new issue. On June 20, El Uniko criticized both Dale Pututi and Alexander Delgado for their recent interest in the genre. He also challenged attempts to erase the contributions of the genre's pioneers.
