“Cuban baseball is in mourning. We have lost a man deeply knowledgeable about the rules and a brilliant statistician. At 6:05 a.m., I received the heartbreaking call — Rafael Guerra Guerrita, who served as a sports statistician for Cuban TV for 40 years, has passed away,” De la Uz conveyed.

De la Uz further elaborated, “He was a master of the baseball rules and scoring guidelines—sometimes controversial, yet often justified and wise in his insights. The call from his daughter, who lived with him, hit me hard. We were close colleagues and friends.”

The Cuban Baseball Federation confirmed the death on social media, extending their condolences: “We mourn the loss of Rafael Guerra, known as Guerrita, a respected statistician who contributed his expertise to Cuban TV baseball broadcasts for over four decades. Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and colleagues.”

Sports journalist Michel Contreras paid tribute to Guerrita, stating, “For many, he was the quintessential baseball statistician. To me, he was a devoted Barcelona fan and a kind soul. God bless you, brother. Every goal in the upcoming season will be dedicated to you.”
