The Havana Electric Company has denied rumors circulating on social media regarding alleged changes in power outage schedules, labeling them as false and misleading. An official statement on their Facebook page addressed a viral audio suggesting increased power disruptions and an uneven distribution among blocks, which the state entity affirmed is entirely incorrect.

According to the statement, also available on the provincial government's website, the company reaffirmed that daily disruptions due to a generation deficit are conducted equitably among all blocks. Only in exceptional circumstances, such as unexpected generator unit failures or reduced solar park output due to weather conditions, are emergency adjustments made to maintain balance within the National Electric System (SEN). Any different planning, they emphasized, "is completely false."

The company also clarified that primary water supply sources remain unaffected by scheduled outages. In cases of specific issues, immediate measures are taken to ensure water supply, minimizing the impact on the population.

The Electric Company urged citizens to rely solely on official channels for information, such as their Facebook, X, Telegram, WhatsApp accounts, and the hotline 18888, warning of the rise in false news on social media aimed at creating misinformation and public alarm.

Despite these official explanations, the harsh reality is that Havana continues to suffer from prolonged blackouts, as is the case across the country. This severely hampers daily life on the island, affecting everything from food preservation and water access to education, work, and the health of millions of Cubans.

Record-Breaking Power Outages Plague Cuba

On a bleak Saturday, June 29, Cuba experienced a historic record of power outages, with a staggering deficit of 1,936 megawatts (MW). This marked the worst day of the year, setting a new record in the ongoing series of collapses within the National Electric System (SEN).

At 9:40 p.m., during peak demand hours, the nearly 2,000 MW shortfall left millions of Cubans without electricity during the most challenging time of day.
