Daylight Burglary Caught on Camera in Havana Neighborhood

Thursday, June 26, 2025 by Grace Ramos

A brazen burglary in broad daylight was captured on video this Wednesday in the Playa district of Havana. An individual brazenly entered a home and stole several items without interference. The incident was reported on social media by Manuel Barrios, who posted footage of the event, which occurred around 6:45 p.m. at the intersection of 11th and 78th Streets, near 13th Park.

"Daylight robbery, that's the reality we're facing, people!" Barrios wrote in his post. He recounted how the thief moved with ease through the area, undeterred by the presence of people inside the house during the robbery.

The video shows a man with his face partially covered by a T-shirt loitering outside the home before climbing over a door or wall to gain entry. He is later seen leaving with a large box and another package, allegedly containing a Vevor fan and a DeWalt screwdriver.

Barrios noted that the suspect headed down 11th Street toward the park and speculated that he might live nearby, urging the community to help identify him. "Share this, it could be you next; we need to stop these thieves," he warned.

This incident is just one of many recent thefts in the capital, where residents report daytime burglaries targeting homes, motorcycles, and businesses amidst economic decline and minimal police response.

Several recent events highlight the growing sophistication and audacity of criminals in Cuba, especially in Havana, amid an economic crisis and institutional breakdown. In one case, a store worker in the capital was violently assaulted during a robbery, sparking community outrage over the brutality of the attack and the authorities' slow response.

Additionally, a theft occurred inside a taxi carrying passengers from José Martí Airport, where one traveler took another passenger's belongings during the ride. This method underscores how criminals exploit trust and transit areas to commit their crimes without arousing suspicion.

In Marianao, a transporter reported being deceived and robbed by two individuals posing as customers. They led him to a supposed residence to pick up goods, and while he stepped out of the vehicle, they stole his tricycle.
