Tourism Driver Found Dead After Disappearance in Villa Clara

Geosvany Fidel Rivalta, known to friends and family as Fidelito, was found dead on Tuesday after going missing for several days. He disappeared on Thursday, June 19, while driving from Ranchuelo, Villa Clara, to Matanzas. The tragic news was confirmed by official spokesperson Henry Omar Pérez through his Facebook account.

The body was discovered in an advanced state of decomposition near Jovellanos, Matanzas, according to reports from the residents of Caibarién, Villa Clara, where he lived. "The condition of the body suggests he was killed on the day he went missing," the report states.

Geosvany, a professional driver, was last seen operating a gray Peugeot 301 with tinted windows, carrying a tourism license plate T-023092. So far, the vehicle has not been recovered, adding more questions to a case that has shaken the community to its core. Initially thought to be a taxi driver, it was later clarified that he worked for the state-owned company Transgaviota Centro, which is connected to the tourism sector.

Living in Caibarién with his pregnant wife, Geosvany was the son of a founding driver of the same company, with decades of service. "He was a hardworking and responsible young man, deeply loved by family, friends, and colleagues. He was eagerly anticipating the birth of his child. The news of his death, especially so close to discovering the baby's gender, is an immeasurable tragedy," Pérez expressed.

"We hope the investigation and subsequent trial lead to the maximum possible penalty for those responsible for this crime," he added.

A Desperate Search

The disappearance of Geosvany led to an intense campaign on social media, spearheaded by family, friends, and citizens alarmed by the growing insecurity on Cuba's roads. The young man left Ranchuelo at around 5:00 pm in a marked tourism vehicle. His last known location, tracked via phone and ETECSA data, was in Palmira, Cienfuegos, a midpoint on his journey to Matanzas. After that, he vanished without a trace.

For days, community groups on Facebook shared photos and descriptions of the car, urging the public to provide any relevant information. The phone number +53 52816709 was shared as a contact point. Relatives noted that Geosvany showed no signs of distress before leaving and that the route was familiar to him.

The absence of official statements heightened the anxiety of his loved ones, who insisted the case required urgent attention from authorities.
