A 33-year-old immigrant suffered the loss of his left arm when he was struck by a train in California while attempting to flee from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers who were trying to detain him. The harrowing event took place on Wednesday, June 11, as Jesús González, a native of Veracruz, Mexico, was returning home from his welding job.

According to Univision, González was waiting at a bus stop when immigration officers approached him. Overcome with fear, he ran away and, during the pursuit, ended up on train tracks where he was hit violently. "I encountered them at a 7-Eleven, there were three patrol cars... I kept walking and they chased me. I got to the train tracks and the train hit me," Jesús recounted from his hospital bed, still visibly shaken by the ordeal.

Despite the severity of his injuries, he managed to get up and continue moving while wounded. However, he claimed that the officers abandoned him. It was a passerby who eventually came to his aid and called an ambulance.

Since the accident, González has undergone two surgeries, with doctors possibly planning a third. He lost his entire left arm from the shoulder, and his physical and emotional state remains critical. "He's still in shock. Sometimes he goes into a crisis and they have to give him medication to calm him down," his sister Rubi González, who has been by his side throughout, explained. "They have told me they will need to remove more tissue to close the wound," she added.

Jesús was the sole provider for his wife and children in Mexico and now faces an uncertain future without health insurance or resources for rehabilitation. To help with his medical expenses and the purchase of a prosthetic arm, his family has set up a GoFundMe account. "It's very sad because his family depends on him. This has been devastating," Rubi expressed.

The incident has sparked concern within the community, highlighting aggressive tactics used by immigration authorities and the plight of those like Jesús who fear arrest and deportation.
