A Cuban follower of the Yoruba religion recently took to social media to explain why she moved her orishas from the main living area of her home to a more private and secluded space, away from the public eye that watches her videos. "I relocated my orishas from the living room. I know many have noticed and have been asking me where my little saints are, where is my Oshún that used to be on this wall," explained user Maite_Oshun in a TikTok video.
She revealed that she made this decision after receiving numerous offensive comments from individuals who disapprove of her religious beliefs, particularly from Christian users who have insulted and cursed her on social media for displaying her altar in her product promotion videos. "I promote products through videos I make from home. Whether it's a rug or a curtain, anything. And they appeared a lot in the videos. People, especially Christians, have been cursing me too much. They wish they could invade the house, enter the altar, saying how ugly it is, how horrible," she lamented.
Respect and Protection for Her Deities
In response to these criticisms, the young woman decided to relocate her deities to a more secluded area of her home to protect them from public ridicule. "Just as they protect me, I have the duty and obligation to protect them. I moved them to a place where they are much calmer. They are no longer exposed to anyone's view," she stated.
She also mentioned that before making this change, she consulted with the orishas and received their approval. "They are much more at peace now. So, I just wanted to let you know," the Cuban concluded.
