Known as the “millionaire psychologist,” Susely Morfa has officially stepped into the role of First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) in Villa Clara. "We will continue to work diligently to achieve new victories," Morfa declared, adhering to the regime's typical empty rhetoric. This announcement was made during an event led by Humberto Camilo Hernández Suárez, a member of the PCC Central Committee and head of its Political Cadre Department, as reported on Facebook by local journalist Henry Omar Pérez.

The event, marking the "handover and reception of the position," was also attended by outgoing secretary Osnay Miguel Colina Rodríguez. Morfa mentioned that even before taking on her new role, she had engaged in a "pleasant and productive phase of visiting various economic, political, and social institutions across all municipalities."

With the signing of the official document, Morfa, as the incoming secretary, and both Central Committee members, concluded Colina Rodríguez's three-year period of leadership of the political organization in Villa Clara. Colina Rodríguez will now take on new responsibilities assigned by the nation's top leadership.

Discussing the handover process, Morfa, now the highest party official in Villa Clara, highlighted her interactions with leaders, artists, and professionals, which allowed her to observe the respect and support from the people of Villa Clara. "We will continue to work diligently to achieve new victories," she reiterated.

This transition was notably free of any political purging, with Colina Rodríguez receiving recognition from the Provincial Government of Popular Power on behalf of Villa Clara's citizens, as well as from representatives of political and governmental organizations.

Previously holding the same position in Matanzas, Morfa served in the Central Committee as the head of the Department of Social Sector Attention. She will now leave her office in Havana to adjust to provincial life. A psychology graduate and member of the National Assembly, Morfa has an extensive history with the Young Communist League, where she once served as the national first secretary. She was also the First Secretary of the PCC in Matanzas for three years.

After leaving that role in March 2024, she was reassigned to the Central Committee, indicating continued high-level political support. Morfa earned the nickname "millionaire psychologist" during the 2015 Summit of the Americas in Panama when she claimed to have funded her trip with personal resources. Her statement, along with her confrontational tone towards journalist Mario Vallejo, sparked criticism and mockery. Since then, the nickname has been used by many Cubans on social media and independent outlets to refer to her.
