The ashes of Darien Heredia, a young Cuban who tragically died in Russia last month, have been brought back to his hometown of Vista Hermosa in Santiago de Cuba. Here, family and friends have the opportunity to bid him a final farewell. Independent journalist Yosmany Mayeta Labrada confirmed on Facebook this Friday that Heredia's remains are now with his loved ones. "The ashes of the young man from Vista Hermosa who passed away in Russia have arrived in Santiago de Cuba. My deepest condolences to his family," Mayeta wrote.

Darien Heredia had moved to Russia over a year ago with hopes of finding a better life but succumbed unexpectedly to still unclear causes. A friend of the young man, quoted by Mayeta, mentioned that Heredia was suffering from flu-like symptoms, coughing, and vomiting blood. Heredia's girlfriend informed his relatives in Cuba that he was taken to intensive care, where he remained unconscious for two days before passing away. Mayeta also pointed out that the exact cause of Heredia's death is still unknown, as they await results from the morgue. "Until the results are out, please do not spread any diagnoses," he explained, urging people to dismiss rumors that Heredia died in the war.

The news of his ashes returning has deeply affected the Vista Hermosa community, where he was remembered as a kind and affectionate young man. "Rest in peace, my dear neighbor from Vista Hermosa. My condolences to the family, Miriam, mija, and her mom. It’s not easy to lose a son. A great friend of my children, a kiss to the sky, and may God have him in a beautiful place," wrote someone who knew him. Another person added, "A lot of strength to the family, friends, and my neighbors... Rest in peace, warrior... May God have you in the best place."

Heredia's death continues to stir reactions on social media, filled with grief and sorrow from friends and acquaintances. Condolences and fond memories of Darien have flooded social networks, highlighting the impact he had on those who knew him.
