Saturday, June 21, 2025 by Aaron Delgado

On Friday afternoon, a woman sustained injuries when a palm tree crashed onto her house during a violent storm in Mantua, Pinar del Río. This incident was reported by Yosmelvi Páez Cornell from the national group "Weather Enthusiasts." The storm struck between 3:30 and 3:40 p.m., unleashing winds with gusts exceeding 90 km/h, which led to a tree falling on the home of an unidentified Cuban woman.

As a result of the impact, a gutter from the roof hit the woman, causing a head injury that required six stitches. "Despite the strong winds, there was no hail, but the storm was marked by intense lightning, strong winds, and falling trees. Unfortunately, a palm tree fell on a house, injuring a woman when a gutter struck her head. Fortunately, everyone else is fine, and the woman, although injured, is also doing well," the social media user shared.

Cuban meteorologists had earlier warned about the likelihood of showers, rains, and thunderstorms, particularly impacting the western and eastern regions. Raudel Ruisánchez explained that the intense daytime heat, along with local conditions and the passage of a tropical wave, combined with favorable atmospheric conditions at higher altitudes, contributed to this stormy weather.

In addition to the situation in Pinar del Río, stormy conditions developed in areas stretching from Güira de Melena to Artemisa, including Alquízar and San Antonio de los Baños. Several Cuban provinces, such as Mayabeque, Artemisa, and Villa Clara, have experienced severe local storms this month, featuring hail, strong winds, and abundant lightning activity, resulting in significant material damage.
