A Sign's Surprise: Cuban Influencer Encounters Cultural Misunderstanding in Miami

Wednesday, June 18, 2025 by Henry Cruz

Cuban content creator Yasni Brave (@yasni_brave) stirred up quite a buzz on Instagram after sharing a humorous story about one of her initial cultural misunderstandings upon arriving in Miami. She stumbled upon a sign near her home that read, "Se hacen alteraciones," which left her puzzled.

In her video, Yasni expressed her initial confusion: "I saw that sign and thought to myself, 'Do they cause disturbances?' I wondered if you could hire these people to make a scene..." Like many newcomers wary of being laughed at, she avoided asking anyone about it at the time: "I was left with that doubt because, you know, when you're new to Miami, everyone laughs at what you say."

As time passed, Yasni finally unraveled the mystery. The infamous sign had nothing to do with causing public scenes but rather referred to the work of seamstresses and tailors. "Here, 'alterations' means the work done by people who fix your clothes, like taking in a seam, hemming pants, or adjusting a skirt's length," she explained.

This amusing anecdote brought smiles to thousands of her followers who could relate to the linguistic mix-up. After all, Miami is a place where "alteraciones" can happen in the most unexpected ways and places.
