Family and Good Samaritan Hospitalized After Fort Lauderdale Beach Rescue Drama

Monday, June 16, 2025 by Madison Pena

A young girl, her father, and a man who attempted to rescue them were rushed to the hospital on Sunday following a near-tragic ocean rescue near the B Ocean hotel in Fort Lauderdale. This incident unfolded around 7:20 p.m., shortly after the Ocean Rescue lifeguards had ended their shift for the day. As they were packing up their gear, they heard a 911 call reporting a child in distress in the water, according to Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue (FLFR) authorities.

Reports from local media outlets such as CBS Miami, WSVN, and Telemundo 51 revealed that the girl was with several family members when she began struggling to swim. Her father jumped in to save her, and another adult, described by witnesses as a good Samaritan, also attempted a rescue but was overcome by the current and exited the water on his own.

Despite the end of their shift, Ocean Rescue personnel were still nearby and quickly responded, managing to pull the girl to safety. Tragically, her father vanished beneath the waves but was located minutes later by rescuers. On the shore, firefighters' paramedics performed resuscitation efforts.

All three individuals were transported to Broward Health Medical Center. While their official medical conditions remain undisclosed, WSVN reported that one of the adults was admitted with life-threatening injuries.

This incident occurred just a day after another child was hospitalized in Fort Lauderdale following a near-drowning at 6001 NW 6th Way. During that event, bystanders performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation before emergency services arrived, as reported by NBC6.
