Cuban-American Congresswoman Maria Elvira Salazar has strongly condemned the violent assault that claimed the life of a Democratic congresswoman and left a senator from the same party critically injured. Salazar urged the nation to reject political hatred, extremism, and violence in the United States. "I am appalled by the politically motivated attack on Minnesota state legislators. There is no place for political violence in our society," Salazar expressed on X. "We must stand against hate and confront extremism in all its forms. My thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families, and the entire community," she added.

In response to the incident, Minnesota police have launched an extensive manhunt for Vance Luther Boelter, a 57-year-old identified as the prime suspect in the murder of State Representative Melissa Hortman and her husband, as well as the attempted murder of Senator John Hoffman and his spouse. The attack occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning, described by authorities as a "politically motivated" and "highly targeted" assault. Mark Bruley, the city's police chief, revealed that the suspect managed to escape after a shootout with officers, and his current whereabouts are unknown.

The Political Motivation Behind the Attack

Democratic Governor Tim Walz confirmed the attack was politically driven and disclosed that Boelter had left behind alarming evidence. Among the items found in Boelter's vehicle was a manifesto listing over 50 targets, including lawmakers from other states, abortion rights advocates, and reproductive health clinics. Documents with the slogan "No Kings," associated with anti-Trump protests, were also discovered.

Boelter's political ties are significant: he was appointed by Governor Walz in 2016 and 2019 as a private sector representative on the governor's workforce council, a role he held until 2023. Despite his Democratic appointment, investigators are examining whether his actions stem from a radical ideological shift or grievances over recent legislative actions.

A Calculated Assault

Reports from the U.S. media indicate that Boelter impersonated a police officer, donning a bulletproof vest, badge, a Taser-like weapon, and driving a vehicle with emergency lights. This guise allowed him to gain access to the homes of the legislators. His first target was Senator Hoffman's residence in Champlin, where both the senator and his wife sustained serious injuries. Subsequently, Boelter proceeded to Hortman's home in Brooklyn Park, where he fatally shot her and her husband Mark, who succumbed to his injuries as emergency services attempted to save him.

The double attack has sent shockwaves across the nation, as the victims were prominent figures within the Democratic Party.
