Patricio Wood Debunks Death Rumors with Humor: "That's Nonsense!"

Saturday, June 14, 2025 by Felix Ortiz

Renowned Cuban actor Patricio Wood has put to rest the swirling rumors on social media about his alleged death in a car accident at the Cojímar roundabout. With a lighthearted remark, the celebrated star of films such as "Los sobrevivientes" by Tomás Gutiérrez Alea, "Guardafronteras" by Octavio Cortázar, "Caravana" by Rogelio París, and "El elefante y la bicicleta" by Juan Carlos Tabío, affirmed that he is very much alive and was not involved in any crash.

"Well, my big Facebook family and everyone on social media, what they're saying is false, of course. I'm fine, nothing happened. I'm not at the Cojímar roundabout," he declared, adding with a chuckle, "That's nonsense!" This phrase, borrowed from a hide-and-seek game where someone would yell "huevo culeco" to reveal a hiding spot, humorously dismisses the false claims.

At 64 years old, Wood is in good health, as confirmed by his video. Hundreds of online fans celebrated the fact that it was merely a hoax and expressed gratitude for his clear refutation. The Caricatos Agency also called for "respect" towards artists, urging Cubans to avoid spreading falsehoods, verify their news sources, and always rely on official channels.

Born in Havana in 1961, Patricio Wood graduated from the Higher Institute of Art in 1984. His early works include the adventure series "Los comandos del silencio" in 1968 and the film about the Literacy Campaign, "El brigadista," directed by Octavio Cortázar. He collaborated again with Cortázar on "Guardafronteras," a movie highlighting the burgeoning socialist project under Fidel Castro in Cuba. He continued this trend with "Caravana," directed by Rogelio París.

On television, Wood has appeared in numerous series and soap operas, such as "Salir de noche," "La cara oculta de la luna," and "Historias de fuego," among others. In 2021, he joined the cast of the series "Tú," directed by Léster Hamlet.

Following in his father's footsteps, one of Wood's sons, Gabriel, has already made significant strides in his acting career at the age of 28. Besides taking on a leading role in the soap opera directed by Hamlet, he portrayed General Julio Sanguily in the film "El Mayor," which focuses on the life of Ignacio Agramonte.
