Washington DC is on high alert following President Donald Trump's warning that any protests against the National Flag Day military parade will be met with "an excessive use of force." "If any protester decides to show up, they will face an excessive use of force," the president declared from the Oval Office. "I haven't even heard of a protest, but as you know, these are people who hate our country, and they will face severe consequences," he added.

The White House has not issued further comments following the president's stern warning. This statement comes despite officials noting that there are currently no scheduled protests directly linked to the parade. However, authorities have assured that they are fully prepared. Matt McCool, Secret Service agent in charge of Washington DC, stated that "thousands of agents, officers, and specialists from across the nation" will be deployed and that the security operation has been meticulously planned in advance.

The parade, which commemorates the 250th anniversary of the United States Army, is set to take place on Saturday, June 14, along Constitution Avenue, stretching from 15th to 23rd streets. It coincides with President Trump's 79th birthday and is expected to draw a massive crowd. The FAA has announced disruptions at Reagan National Airport (DCA), as well as temporary road and waterway closures, as part of the national security plan. The event has been designated as a National Special Security Event (NSSE).

Military Spectacle and Security Measures

The parade will feature a grand display of military might, including more than 100 vehicles such as M1A2 Abrams tanks and Apache helicopters, along with troops dressed in historic uniforms representing each armed conflict since the War of Independence. There will also be paratroopers, fireworks, and a free public concert.

Trump has defended the event's cost—estimated between 25 and 45 million dollars—as an investment in national pride. "We will have a fantastic parade on June 14, Flag Day. It will be an incredible day. We have tanks, planes, everything. And I think it will be great. We're going to celebrate our country, for a change," he stated.

Activist Group Plans Nationwide Protests

The activist group No Kings, critical of the current administration, has predicted over 1,800 demonstrations across the country in response to what they deem an "authoritarian overreach." Although no protest has yet been confirmed directly in Washington DC, the Park Police noted that several pending permits related to the First Amendment are under close observation.

Security will be tight. Large backpacks, drones, balloons, weapons, and other items will be prohibited. Attendees will be required to pass through metal detectors.

While Trump asserts the parade will celebrate "the Army's legacy and the nation's spirit," his warnings about the use of force reinforce tensions between the administration and sectors that criticize the growing authoritarianism in the executive's rhetoric and actions.
