Tuesday, June 10, 2025 by Felix Ortiz

A Cuban mother has become a viral sensation on TikTok after sharing the heartbreaking moment she discovered she won't be able to bring her children from Cuba until she becomes a U.S. citizen. In a video posted on the account @eg.la.chati6, the woman is seen crying and visibly distressed by the news. "Today, the worst news of my life: I can't bring my children from Cuba until I'm an American citizen, and I can't even see them, all because of our great president," she wrote in the video's description.

The post has sparked a wave of reactions and supportive comments, particularly from other Cuban mothers who face similar challenges in reuniting with their children due to immigration restrictions or complex political situations. Among the most notable comments, some users pointed directly to the Cuban government as responsible for the situation. "Because of the dictatorship in Cuba, you cannot be with your children today. Everything will take its course and everything will be resolved," one user wrote.

Others offered words of encouragement rooted in faith: "I don't cry, you don't cry, and no mother cries. We all have a father, and He is God. Wipe your tears, bend your knees. God cares for you and loves you."

Hopeful messages were also shared, such as one user's determination: "I will become a resident, I will go to Cuba, and I will bring my daughter. I declare it, and it will be in the name of God."

This post adds to a growing number of testimonies from Cubans on social media who are speaking out about the obstacles they face in achieving family reunification. This is set against a backdrop of massive emigration and restrictions imposed both by the island and abroad. While many blame the U.S. immigration system for long naturalization processes, others hold the Cuban government accountable for preventing family reunions, keeping thousands of families apart.
