Saturday turned out to be a day of sorrow for the residents of Bauta, a municipality in Artemisa, as the region grappled with four deaths. Among these was a fatal traffic accident that not only claimed one life but also left two individuals injured. This incident unfolded against a backdrop of grief, as earlier in the day, a three-year-old girl drowned, and two teenagers, aged 13 and 16, suffered fatal electric shocks in unrelated incidents.

The devastating collision occurred in La Ernestina, near Punta Brava, involving a motorcycle and a Lada car, as reported by the official newspaper El Artemiseño. The accident resulted in one fatality and injuries to two others, whose identities have not been disclosed by authorities or local media. The injured parties are currently receiving medical care at the Hospital Clínico Quirúrgico Calixto García in Havana.

Images of the crash shared on Facebook by Telecentro ARTV-Artemisa revealed the extensive damage to the car, rendering it beyond repair. While the exact causes of the accident remain unconfirmed, the condition of the vehicle suggests that excessive speed might have been a factor. No photographs of the motorcycle have been released, and updates on the condition of those injured have not been provided.

The series of tragic events on Saturday afternoon and evening cast a pall over multiple families in Artemisa and the community of Bauta, just a week before Father's Day in Cuba. Additionally, another fatal accident was reported in the municipality of Guisa in Granma, where two individuals lost their lives and several others were injured.

In Bayamo, the capital of the same eastern province, an accident involving a bus and a motorcyclist occurred when the latter failed to heed a stop sign. Initial reports did not specify the motorcyclist's medical condition.

During the first four months of this year, Cuba recorded 2,377 traffic accidents, reflecting a decrease of 150 incidents compared to the same period in 2024. Although the number of injuries has declined, fatalities in these accidents have unfortunately risen, according to official reports.
