Tuesday, June 10, 2025 by Daniel Colon

A Cuban living in Europe recently shared his experience at an Italian gas station on TikTok, leaving many viewers astonished by the cost. The video, uploaded by the user @el_pepe9o, has already garnered thousands of views. "If you thought gas was expensive in the USA, come with me to fill up here in Italy," the young man remarked before refueling his Fiat Panda.

The refueling amounted to 27.21 liters, costing him 46.50 euros, which is approximately $52.49 in U.S. dollars. According to his explanation in the video, the same amount of fuel in the United States would have cost him around $25, making the Italian price seem exorbitant by comparison.

"It might not seem like much, but when it comes to filling up an SUV, it can cost around 80 euros, and in Italy, that's expensive compared to average salaries," he added, emphasizing the financial strain fuel prices put on the average citizen.

The video has gone viral among Spanish-speaking users living outside of Cuba, many of whom took the opportunity to discuss how fuel prices differ across European countries, the United States, and Latin America.
