A tragic road accident on the Cotorro Bridge in Havana resulted in the deaths of at least two individuals and left several others seriously injured. The incident occurred when a rented tourist car, driven at high speed and by an intoxicated driver, collided with several motorcycles in the area.

Reports on social media vary regarding the number of casualties. They agree that a young couple on a motorcycle died at the scene, but some accounts suggest the death toll could be as high as three, four, six, or even eight. Those injured were transported to the National Hospital.

In a Facebook post, Saúl Manuel shared a firsthand account from a young musician named Rey Manzano, who stated that the motorcyclists were not at fault. "I was coming back from work on the First Ring Road and saw the car speeding past us on the left, weaving erratically. It then veered right and struck all those young people. I helped, along with another driver, to take them to the hospital. Sadly, those young ones were already dead," he recounted.

Eyewitnesses and Victims' Accounts

Arlena Santander, an eyewitness, disclosed that her niece and her niece's husband were among those injured. "They are psychologically devastated. She has a severe injury on her right leg. Others weren't as fortunate. The group of motorcyclists was riding calmly, even chatting among themselves, when the car suddenly hit them from behind at high speed," she explained.

Another witness, Alejandro Zrate, described the driver as "drunk as a skunk," apologizing and claiming he didn't see the people. "It's heartbreaking; he ended several lives and caused pain to many of us," Zrate lamented.

Rebeca Contreras, one of the injured, luckily sustained only minor injuries. "We weren't speeding, definitely not over 20 km/h. If you check, you'll see debris on the right lane showing these motorcyclists weren't reckless and had proper licenses," she testified.

Lack of Official Information

As of now, no official statement has been released regarding this devastating accident. The exact number of fatalities and injured parties, as well as their identities, remain unknown.
