Cuban reggaeton artist Dany Ome recently voiced his criticisms of influencer Alexander Otaola during an appearance on the podcast Destino Tolk. Joined by his musical partner, Kevincito El 13, Ome shared his frustration over the disparity between Otaola's financial success and the struggles faced by his mother, Noelia Pedraza Jiménez. Pedraza, a Lady in White in Cuba, gained recognition after marrying political prisoner Ariel Sigler Amaya in 2008.
"How is it possible that Otaola, just talking into a microphone, has more money than my mom? And my mom actually took to the streets," Ome expressed, highlighting what he perceives as an injustice against those who bravely opposed the Cuban regime from within the island.
During the interview, Ome also recounted the hardship his mother endured due to her political beliefs, which differed from the Cuban government. Despite these challenges, she remains open to visiting Cuba on vacation with her son. "Many people have their own pain, and we respect that, but don't try to dictate my life or what I do," Ome stated, alluding to alleged criticism from Otaola regarding his intentions to travel to Cuba for performances and leisure.
Otaola's Sharp Retort
Ome's comments did not go unnoticed. On Wednesday, Alexander Otaola delivered a pointed response on his YouTube show, Hola Ota-Ola, where he scrutinized the reggaeton artist's family narrative.
"It's possible [that I have more money than your mom] because I didn't marry a political prisoner the same day I met them just to get a visa. It's possible because I consistently address the hypocrisies you choose to ignore," Otaola declared.
He directly accused Ome's mother, claiming she married Ariel Sigler Amaya the day they met at the Provincial Youth Prison in Villa Clara with ulterior motives. "Are you going to talk to me about double standards? You? I have the letter from the man who married your mom, who made it clear two years later that your mom had nothing to do with him. You're going to talk to me about double standards, kid?" he challenged.
Otaola presented a 2010 press release where Sigler Amaya publicly denied having a romantic relationship with Pedraza and stated that none of her children were his.
"She obtained a visa to the United States by presenting herself as the wife of a political prisoner... She, like many others, exploited the opposition to gain personal benefits, such as traveling and seeking refuge in the United States," asserted the host.
Otaola went on to label the reggaeton artist as cowardly: "Dany Ome, you don't have the courage of a brave person."
Music Over Politics
During the podcast, Dany Ome and Kevincito El 13 emphasized their commitment to music rather than political discourse. "We are here to make music and through that music, elevate Cuba and its people," they stated.
Kevincito also shared the importance of his familial connections in Cuba. "I have my dad and my entire family on that side of Cuba," he said.
Both musicians defended their right to visit their homeland and maintain emotional ties, dismissing the criticisms they often face for returning to the island.
