A 40-year-old Cuban man lost his life due to severe injuries sustained during a knife fight in a bar on Monday night in Valencia, Spain, according to police reports. The victim, identified by local Valencian media as José L. G., held Spanish nationality. He died at the scene of the violent altercation, the Hostal Restaurante Virginia, located on a highway crossing the municipality of Favara.

The incident also left three other men injured. As of Wednesday, two of them remained in a medical facility under police supervision. A third individual involved in the altercation was detained by the Civil Guard after receiving hospital treatment. The three await a decision on whether they will be arrested or released, with or without charges, following the tragic confrontation, as reported by the local newspaper Las Provincias.

The deadly events unfolded shortly after 10:30 p.m. on Monday, involving two Spaniards—a father and son aged 71 and 32—the Cuban man, and a 37-year-old Bulgarian citizen. Preliminary reports from the media suggest that the father and son entered the bar-restaurant seeking refuge, allegedly being pursued by a third party intending to kill them. While seated, the other two men entered, and the brawl ensued.

The Cuban-Spanish man, described as having a strong build, allegedly took the son to a corner of the bar and began attacking him. Witnesses claim the father retrieved a knife to defend his son and purportedly stabbed the victim. However, another account suggests that the assailant first struck the father with an expandable rubber baton, and it was the son who attempted to protect his father by using a large knife, inflicting fatal injuries on the Cuban.

The bar owner attempted to intervene using a crate of beer bottles and sustained a minor hand injury. At 10:40 p.m., the Emergency Information and Coordination Center (CICU) received an alert about injured individuals in Favara, prompting the immediate dispatch of two SAMU units. Medical teams attended to the wounded.

The 32-year-old man suffered a severe abdominal trauma, while his father had a cranial trauma; both were transported to a local hospital. The Bulgarian national fled in the BMW he and the victim used to arrive at the scene but was promptly apprehended.

Possible Motives Behind the Cuban's Murder in Valencia

The Civil Guard is investigating the events. According to an update published Wednesday by Las Provincias, authorities are considering several motives for the brawl. One possibility involves a debt dispute, while another suggests the Cuban went to the bar to confront one of the men over incidents of gender violence against a female family member.

Initial investigations by the Almussafes Civil Guard's Judicial Police Team, cited by the Valencian newspaper Levante, indicate that the murder's origin is a case of domestic violence. Relatives of the victim stated that José L. G. had demanded his alleged killer, identified as Ramón R. R., 32, cease threatening a cousin with whom he had a brief relationship over a year ago. "Since then, the threats turned against him. That's why they called each other on Monday and arranged to meet to talk and resolve things. But they didn't want that; they wanted to kill him. It was a setup! They went after him!" a family member of the deceased declared.

Authorities confirmed that the Cuban and his companion traveled in a BMW from Gandia, where they reside, to Favara after arranging to meet the alleged murderer by phone. Upon arriving at the bar, they encountered the man and his father, leading to the violent fight that resulted in the Cuban citizen's death. José L. G. leaves behind a nine-year-old child, his family stated.
