Meta Halts Accounts Tied to Cuban Propaganda Outlet

The tech giant Meta has taken action against the social media accounts of the pro-government digital outlet, Razones de Cuba, which has been utilized by the Cuban regime to target dissidents and disseminate its propaganda. In a statement, Razones de Cuba decried that their Instagram and Facebook profiles were blocked for allegedly "denouncing Washington's subversion."

"Once again, they attempt to silence Razones de Cuba, while numerous others incite violence against the largest island in the Caribbean and try to destabilize the government through social media. Isn't this a blatant violation of Meta’s rules? Yet, no actions are taken against them. They continue their objectives with impunity, while Razones de Cuba is muted for revealing the truth about the Island," the statement read.

The official outlet reported that its content on Facebook was no longer visible, and its Instagram profile had been shut down. The accounts were reportedly blocked "without prior notice" due to alleged "violations of community guidelines," a rationale that Razones de Cuba considered arbitrary. The site ironically criticized the platforms for their ideological bias, accusing them of reflecting U.S. government interests, while it itself promotes the regime’s ideological narrative.

The Origins and Purpose of Razones de Cuba

Established in 2010, Razones de Cuba was designed to undermine citizen demands against the Cuban regime and discredit the opposition within the country. The outlet frequently claims to oppose "propaganda campaigns" and "media manipulation by the United States to discredit the government."

Razones de Cuba often echoes the arguments of the Castro regime, absolving Cuban elites of internal crises and blaming external factors like U.S. sanctions. These actions are depicted as part of an "imperialist plan" to dismantle the system.

Connection to Larger Media Group

The platform is part of the Ideas Multimedios group, responsible for other outlets such as Cubadebate, Mesa Redonda, Con filo, Cuadrando la caja, and Fidel, soldado de las ideas.

Recently, Razones de Cuba used the case of a Cuban child, Damir, who passed away in the U.S. due to medical complications after obtaining a visa for treatment. The outlet highlighted the resources invested in his care as a testament to its healthcare system. On Facebook, they claimed that from the onset of his illness, Damir received specialized medical attention and had access to high-tech diagnostic tools, which was contradicted by the child's mother.
