Sofía Vargas, the daughter of Cuban reggaeton artist Alexander Delgado from the duo Gente de Zona, has been celebrated at her school in the United States for her remarkable performance in mathematics, despite not speaking English when the school year began.

A few months ago, María Aventín Vargas, Sofia's mother, relocated with her partner and daughter from Canada to Orlando, Florida. This transition to American soil presented an extra challenge for young Sofia, who had to swiftly adjust to a new school system and an entirely English-speaking environment.

María took to Instagram to share her daughter's achievement, as Sofia was awarded the “Most Improved Mathematician” diploma for the 2024–2025 academic year. “I am incredibly proud of you, my love. Despite not speaking a word of English, you graduated with honors. You are the daughter every mother dreams of having at home,” María expressed emotionally alongside several photos of Sofia with her certificate.

Furthermore, the proud mother extended her heartfelt thanks to Sofia’s teacher for her dedication and support. “You don't just teach; you enlighten and transform lives with your wisdom. I will be eternally grateful for everything you did, especially for Sofia," she wrote in a message full of gratitude.

The photos capture a joyful Sofia with her mother and teacher during what appears to be a school event in Orlando. American flags in the backdrop emphasize the immigrant context of Sofia's academic achievement.

This recognition is particularly significant considering Sofia’s adaptation journey in a new country and with a different language. The absence of her father's mention in both posts didn’t go unnoticed by followers, though María focused her message on her daughter's personal effort and the educational support she received.
