After just over a month since an altercation involving Cuban actor William Levy at a Florida restaurant, the Broward State Attorney's Office has officially pressed charges against him. Levy is expected to be summoned in the coming days to appear before a court.
According to journalist Alex Rodríguez on Univision's program ¡Siéntese Quien Pueda!, the charges include "misdemeanor disorderly conduct and public intoxication as well as trespassing on occupied property." Authorities claim that during the incident at "Baires Grill" in Weston, Levy was under the influence of alcohol and his behavior disrupted the restaurant's operations.
Rodríguez also mentioned that Levy is cooperating with the legal process but has requested confidentiality concerning sensitive personal and medical information. "He has asked that his bank account details, any tests related to substance abuse or sexually transmitted diseases, and everything regarding his children remain confidential," Rodríguez explained.
Furthermore, a waitress from the restaurant reportedly felt assaulted by Levy during the incident and is willing to file a formal complaint and assist the prosecution. However, the restaurant has not yet filed any official complaint.
The altercation occurred on the night of April 14 when Levy visited the restaurant with the parents of his son's friends. Initial rumors suggested the dispute began because Levy refused to pay the bill, but he later provided a different account after his release.
"We were just having drinks with the team’s parents when suddenly another argument broke out... I was dragged into the middle of it, and I ended up being the one handcuffed," Levy previously stated on the same television network.
Unconfirmed reports suggest Levy might have pushed an employee while speaking with his manager, leading to his expulsion from the restaurant. However, the actor denied acting violently. "I tried to remain calm the whole time... In the end, I was the one who got handcuffed," he insisted.
Although Levy did not delve into specifics about the charges, he did refer to the trespassing allegation: "They needed a reason to take me away," he remarked. The actor was released after posting a $500 bail. Upon leaving jail, he denied pushing anyone or refusing to pay the bill.
In statements to Jordi Martín for Univision's El Gordo y la Flaca, Levy claimed that his friend argued with the restaurant staff over what was perceived as an exorbitant bill. He stated he attempted to deescalate the situation, but unexpectedly, the police arrived and arrested him, making him suspect he might have been "set up."
A 911 call logged by a restaurant employee reported that Levy and his companion refused to pay the bill, even after receiving a discount, and were engaged in a heated argument with another patron. As of the time of this report, the date of Levy's next court appearance remains unknown.
