In the heart of Little Havana, Naranja-Piña Gelato has brought a Cuban twist to the North American semifinals of the World Gelato Championship. This event recently took place with competitors from the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

Miguel López, the Cuban founder of Naranja-Piña Gelato, introduced his unique Mojito Gelato, drawing inspiration from the iconic island cocktail, to the international competition. "We were among the top selections in Florida and then stood out in the semifinals. Although I didn't advance to the regional finals in Los Angeles, I'm determined to try again next year," Miguel expressed, proud to be the sole Cuban participant.

The Mojito Gelato captivated the judges, earning praise for its creativity and flavor. "It's like enjoying a mojito, but in the form of gelato," Miguel shared in an exclusive interview with CiberCuba. The recipe stays true to the classic cocktail by incorporating Bacardí Rum.

Revitalizing Tradition with Cuban Flavors

Naranja-Piña Gelato is pioneering a concept they call "Cuban gelato," merging Italian gelato traditions with Cuban flavors such as mantecado, cream cheese with guava, and their signature orange-pineapple blend. This Miami-based Cuban business boasts over a hundred different flavors, with their products featured in numerous local restaurants. Their dedication to quality, service, and authenticity has made them a staple in Florida's culinary scene.

Another competitor from Florida, Agustín Giménez from Quore Gelato in Miami Beach, entered the competition with a "Cheestacchio Yuzu Dream," a mix of cheese, pistachio, and oriental citrus.

Embracing International Recognition

Despite not making it to the finals this year, Miguel López is celebrating the enthusiastic feedback his Mojito Gelato received and cherishes the opportunity to showcase Cuban essence on such a prestigious international stage.
