Can You Identify Him? $200 Reward Offered for Information on Thief Caught on Camera in Havana

Friday, May 9, 2025 by Isabella Rojas

In Havana, a robbery victim is offering a $200 reward for any details leading to the identification and capture of a thief. The announcement, posted on Facebook by Paloma Zaldívar, reveals that during the early hours of Thursday, a burglar broke into her home in the Bahía neighborhood of Havana's East Municipality and disconnected the house's alarm system.

Fortunately, the alarm system functioned correctly, prompting several individuals to respond to the scene. The suspect fled the premises and was captured on the home's surveillance camera escaping. While Zaldívar did not specify whether the thief took anything else, she is offering a monetary reward for information that leads to the perpetrator's apprehension, stating, "I'm offering $200 to anyone who helps me find this person so they can be held accountable for their actions."

An increasing number of Cubans report feeling unsafe even in their own homes, fearing the loss of their few possessions, including basic items such as light bulbs, wires, or appliance parts. With the authorities' inadequate response, Cubans are turning to social media not only to report crimes but to warn and protect their communities from future incidents.

In late April, another individual named Alain Gómez offered a $500 reward for credible information about the whereabouts of a suspected thief sought in Bayamo, Granma. Similarly, last Tuesday, the issues of impunity and lack of citizen protection were highlighted in Havana when Meibol Sánchez Mujica, a resident of Arroyo Naranjo, publicly reported the theft of her elevated water tank, despite having evidence of the crime and no action taken by authorities.

On May 1, the Havana-based store Reynashop reported three women caught on security cameras stealing merchandise using an unusual method.
