Cuban Woman in the U.S. Shares Smooth Airport Experience After Cuba Trip: "Don't Believe the Hype"

Monday, May 5, 2025 by Matthew Diaz

A TikTok user known as @saylin4020, a Cuban residing in the United States, recently revealed that her return journey from Cuba was completely uneventful, without any issues upon re-entering the U.S. In her video, she advised others not to be swayed by alarmist comments circulating on social media.

"I'm making this video because many people have asked me about my trip to Cuba. Folks, there’s no problem going to Cuba, don’t let what’s said here on TikTok influence you," Saylin stated, emphasizing that unlike a previous trip, this time she wasn’t taken aside for additional questioning upon her return to the U.S.

In the video, she recalled how during her first visit to the island, she was briefly detained at the Tampa airport for a check, but confirmed that everything was normal this time around. "This time I went, and everything was normal," she reiterated, noting that numerous people had inquired about her experience, prompting her to share her story publicly.

Her posts about her trip to Cuba sparked numerous reactions. Most comments agreed that being pulled aside is a standard immigration procedure, even for legal residents. "That’s normal, there are people who have been here for 20 years and still get checked," one user wrote. Others pointed out that much depends on the immigration officer you encounter.

Some shared their own experiences, explaining that sometimes they are checked and other times not. "I returned through Tampa, and all was well," one follower commented. "I always get sent for a check, and this last time they didn’t even ask where I came from," another user added. Others mentioned that even a simple identity match could trigger a routine inspection.

Saylin wrapped up her message by encouraging those planning a trip to Cuba not to be afraid or influenced by rumors. "It's not like they say on TikTok, 'Don't go to Cuba, they'll throw you in jail.' I had no issues, they didn’t check me or my luggage," she asserted with confidence.
